Teguise Market
Teguise market takes place every sunday, the old capital of Teguise, right in the center for the island. The market opens on a sunday morning, normally after breakfast and it closes at about one o'clock. There are numerous colourful marketbooths and people.
Salesmen and women are often Africans from mainland Spain or Morocco, sometimes even Senegal. Lots of leather baskets, leather jackets and all other leather products are readily available.
There are however some things that you should not buy at the market. An example of these items are watches, you will more than likely be offered all the well-known make, such as Rolex. However these are more often than not fakes and should generally be avoided.
When trying to purchase something you MUST haggle over the price. It's not difficult, because its always the seller that takes first step. Once you show interest in something, the seller normally tries to give you a 'special-price'. Start haggling now and if you don't get very far - turn and leave. At this point the seller will try to give you his last offer.
If it is a reasonable offer accept it, now you have made a deal. Gold can be bought all over, and the jewellery are exquisite. However you need to be sure that the jewellery is real gold and not just gold plated. As long as you are aware of that fact, you can make your own judgment as to whether you buy it.
